2; your windsheild’s metalized coating can reduce radar sensiitivity by up to 80%, no matter *what* brand of detector you use, even the legendary Valentine One would have a hard time with your “InstaClear” windshield, you’d be better off with a remote detectordetectors

Two reasons;
1; Cobra detectors have *horrible* range, and they leak X and Ka band, they set off more sensitive detectors like the Valentine One, Beltronics and Escort units, if you have POP enabled, your Cobra is leaking X and Ka and falsing other detectors

sheebom is right..the 01 and later S Class mercedes had an invisible 5×9 area specifically made into the glas to allow RF thru says so in the owners manual.. they had a purplish tint too at times..what u CAN do is dissamble the unit and extend the speaker wires but mount it behind the grill..but thats about it. u can also buy a remote sensor type. (stay away from ANY K40 product).

Thats weird….even Cobra’s shouldn’t be THAT shitty…

It’s most likely your windshield. Some cars now a days have Metal in the glass used for heat transfer (easy defrost in icy conditions). Its looks as though your driving a GM car maybe, and if that’s the case I almost grantee that’s your problem, and your screwed when it comes to a solution.

You said tell us what brand and model…theres not much anybody can say/do otherwise.
On a side note, I have NEVER seen a radar detector that had to be mounted outside of the vehicle…
