I don’t know if thats entirely true, (show me the law that says that) but thorugh little experence, most lasers i see are indeed easy to spot (a red va/ tinted windows with a cop doing something)

It is illegal for a cop to hide in Canada. They have to be out in plain sight, and they have to be able to back up what they are saying with a radar/laser.
